Minimum education requirements for the post

• B Pharm Degree or equivalent.
• Registration with SA Pharmacy Council as Pharmacist according to Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974.

Knowledge, skills and experience

• At least 5 years experience as a Pharmacist post community service, including 3 years supervisory experience and administrative ability.
• Ability to work in a team, Good communication and interpersonal skills;
• Understanding of the National Drug Policy, Good Pharmacy Practice Guidelines, the Pharmacy Act & the Medicines and Related Substances Act.

Responsibilities / KRA’s

The broad objective for this position is to ensure compliance of provincial pharmaceutical services to the relevant acts and legislation. This will entail:
• Ensuring that there is effective implementation of pharmaceutical services according to the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965 and the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974;
• Ensuring facilities have appropriate equipment and ensuring that the layout and design of Pharmacies meets Good Pharmacy Practice standards as set down by Pharmacy Council;
• Coordinating annual placement of pharmaceutical community service staff in identified facilities and providing them with the necessary support, training and guidance throughout their contractual period;
• Ensuring facilities have properly trained and registered pharmacy staff by:
Coordinating the training of Pharmacist’s Assistants through service providers accredited by the South African Pharmacy Council;
Coordinating the in-service training of pharmacy staff on identified training programmes;
Identification of appropriate training programmes for continuing professional development.
• Monitoring all facilities to ensure that the management of pharmaceutical services is conducted under appropriate conditions as defined in the Good Pharmacy Practice standards set out by Pharmacy Council.
